Delta variant could cause neurological symptoms as common manifestation if it goes to brain: Ex-ICMR scientist

New Delhi: The emerging Delta and Delta Plus variants of the deadly Covid-19 virus is considered to be highly contagious, with former chief scientist of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Raman Gangakhedkar warning that it could cause “neurological symptoms as a common manifestation”
“When I said Delta variant can go for cell-to-cell transfer, what does it mean in terms of damage to organs? If it goes into brain, what will happen? It’s more likely to produce neurological symptoms as common manifestation,” Gangakhedkar, the former chief of ICMR, told news agency ANI.
He said that depending on which organ the new mutated virus attacks, it could cause major pathophysiologic changes.
“It depends on which organ am I speaking about. It’ll perhaps damage more those specific organs if it’s proven to be true that it’s causing major pathophysiologic change and affecting different organs,” the ex-Head Scientist of the Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at ICMR, said.
